Smart Energy Systems

The research field “Smart Energy Systems” dedicates itself to the increase of energy efficiency and the development of new concepts for providing, distributing, transforming, storing and using thermal and electrical energy within buildings, with particular regard to user comfort. The incorporation of these systems into the building envelope, interconnection and load balance between buildings are examined. Demand-Response solutions offer opportunities for a sustainable handling of resources via smart technology. In consequence, the increased fluctuation in energy supply by renewable energy carriers can be managed.

The main focus is on examining load transfer potentials while making use of component activation within the building envelope and the building itself both in new constructions and renovation.
