Prototype: Multifunctional Façade

Multifunctional façades offer a wide range of service functions, including energy generation through Building Integrated Photovoltaics (BIPV) and Building Integrated Solar Thermal (BIST), the use of daylight and artificial lighting, and natural and mechanical ventilation. These façades also enable (partially) autonomous heating and cooling, thermally activated building systems for instance using mass timber, and energy flexibility through advanced monitoring, control, and automation.
Prefabrication and trade coordination not only ensure high manufacturing quality but also enable short construction times and serial renovations while the building remains in operation, helping avoid construction-related defects.
Efficient system solutions for prefabricated unitized façade elements or building systems enable rapid planning and execution and reduce costs through economies of scale. Integrating building services into prefabricated façade elements increases the degree of prefabrication and saves space.
