Building Potential Radar

Development and handover of an automated GIS model for estimating construction potential in residential building land

Background

In the Salzburg region, given its topographic and climatic conditions, the efficient and sustainable use of available resources – particularly in terms of land and energy efficiency as well as infrastructure utilization – is one of the key future challenges.

Project Objective

The central objective of this contract research project was the development and handover of an automated GIS model for estimating building potential in residentially zoned land (for new construction and densification). The aim was to provide planning foundations that can be updated quickly and that the State of Salzburg can use directly for current questions in location and municipal development. The methodological basis was provided by the Zentrum Alpines Bauen project and the follow-on project ScaleUp_ZAB.

Results

The results were integrated into SAGIS as a dedicated data layer.
